Laia Blanco, physiotherapist specialized in the treatment of pelvic floor dysfunctions and co-director of a center in Barcelona, presents a common case in consultation related to the changes that many women experience during menopause. In this testimony she explains the situation of a patient who came to the center after starting to notice symptoms that significantly affected her quality of life and that she did not expect to associate with this stage.
In addition to hot flashes, irritability and insomnia, the patient reported an increase in urinary frequency, urinary urgency, the need to get up at night to urinate, vaginal dryness and discomfort in sexual relations. These symptoms conditioned her daily life to the point of living attentive to the location of bathrooms and not being able to go out calmly.
As Laia explains, the therapeutic approach combined conventional physiotherapy treatment, focused on improving proprioception and motor control of the pelvic floor musculature, with work on the quality of local tissues through radiofrequency. To this approach NESA was added as a complementary tool to intervene on more global symptoms, especially those related to hot flashes and sleep alterations.
The evolution of the case, as she relates, was positive. The patient experienced a notable improvement in nighttime rest, stopped waking up repeatedly, reduced nighttime urinations and began to live with greater tranquility, feeling that these symptoms no longer conditioned her daily life so much.
