Laia Blanco, physiotherapist expert in pelvic floor dysfunctions and co-director of RAP Barcelona, presents the case of Cristina, a patient with a particularly complex clinical picture, marked by seven or eight chronic minority diseases that significantly affected her quality of life. Cristina came to Barcelona to be treated at a hospital and, in parallel, seek specialized support in physiotherapy for a urinary problem that until then had not found an effective solution.
As exposed in the testimony, the patient lived with pathologies of vascular, digestive and connective tissue origin, including Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, plus a disorder of the autonomic nervous system. All this generated strong pressure on the bladder and an imperious and constant feeling of urinary urge, to the point of needing to go to the bathroom every few minutes. Faced with this situation, the physiotherapeutic approach focused on decongesting the pelvis and improving symptoms from a functional perspective, also incorporating NESA technology as a support tool.
Laia explains that, beyond the mechanical component, there was also a sensitization process, so that the brain had learned to interpret any signal from that area as an urgent need to urinate. The combination of treatment allowed this situation to be significantly improved. Cristina relates that she went from going to the bathroom every ten minutes to being able to remain a whole afternoon away from home without needing to do so, thus recovering tranquility and hope in her evolution.
