Julia Agustín, physiotherapist, osteopath and TMJ specialist, director of the Rehabilitarte clinic, presents the case of a patient who came to consultation with a picture marked by anxiety, sustained stress, intense bruxism and associated joint pain. As she relates, the problem had reached an important point of involvement, with severe nighttime clenching, pain in the mouth and head upon waking, progressive dental wear and clear alteration of rest. Despite the use of a bite splint and several attempts to control the situation, the symptoms persisted and had even worsened in periods of special emotional overload.
In this context, it was decided to incorporate NESA with the aim of reducing the stress level and acting on bruxism and associated pain. The patient explains that improvement began to be perceived from the beginning of treatment, with a progressive decrease in nighttime clenching and a clear improvement in falling asleep and the feeling of rest upon waking. In addition, the approach was also subsequently oriented to joint pain, seeking to improve the functionality of the temporomandibular joint.
As she relates, the evolution not only impacted the reduction of bruxism, but also other aspects of her daily life, such as concentration and the ability to resume activities that were previously difficult due to tiredness and tension. The case reflects how a treatment aimed at the global regulation of the nervous system can have a very significant positive effect on patients with bruxism, pain and high stress load.
