Rosario, nurse specialized in functional urology at Puerta de Hierro Hospital since 2012, shares her perspective on the approach to pelvic pain and urinary incontinence from hospital practice.
Her work focuses on urodynamics, self-catheterization, bladder reeducation, overactive bladder and urinary incontinence, attending to both male and female patients. She attends the NESA course with the specific goal of finding new tools for chronic pelvic pain, a pathology she describes as “unmanageable” due to its complexity and the high number of professionals involved in its management: physiotherapists, pain units, urologists and psychologists.
She describes the reality of these patients with honesty: people who live a very limited and complicated life, with incontinence that conditions their independence and autonomy. The therapeutic goal she pursues is comprehensive: improving quality of life, offering real rest, disconnection from pain and a positive perspective of recovery.
Although her testimony is situated at the moment of discovery of NESA technology, she enormously values the possibility of incorporating a tool that complements the existing pharmacological and psychological approach, highlighting that achieving real improvement in these patients is, in her own words, “a treasure”.
