Dr. José María Adot, MD from the Complutense University, PhD in Neuro-Urology and specialist at Burgos University Hospital, shares his vision on the potential of neuromodulation in the field of functional urology and, especially, in addressing pathologies related to the autonomic nervous system.
In his testimony, he focuses on the central role this system plays in such relevant functions as bladder control, and emphasizes the clinical interest aroused by the possibility of acting on these regulatory mechanisms. From his experience in treating pelvic pain, pudendal pain, painful bladder and interstitial cystitis, he highlights that advancing in the modulation of the autonomic nervous system opens a particularly promising therapeutic avenue in complex and, in many cases, insufficiently understood pathologies.
Dr. Adot also points out that, although neuromodulation has demonstrated relevant clinical results, many unknowns remain about its mechanisms of action. Precisely for this reason, he considers that delving into this field represents an opportunity of enormous value to continue expanding medical knowledge and offer more effective answers to patients.
