Carlos Lorenzo, nurse at the Urodynamics Unit of San Carlos Clinical Hospital in Madrid, shares his experience accompanying patients with continence problems and other functional urological alterations, highlighting the importance of always working with the goal of improving their quality of life. With a long professional career, he explains how this care area has evolved notably over time, allowing today more agile approaches, but without losing the closeness and continued follow-up that many patients require.
In his testimony, he emphasizes that an essential part of his work consists of accompanying people who often come to consultation in situations of great desperation, with strong limitations in their social and daily lives due to the insecurity their symptoms generate. In many cases, these are patients who have stopped doing such normal activities as going to the cinema or theater for fear of urgency episodes or leaks. From this perspective, he considers that the true value of treatment is not only in reducing symptoms, but in restoring security, autonomy and well-being.
