Miguel Ángel Bonillo, urologist of the Functional and Reconstructive Urology section of La Fe Hospital, Valencia, shares his vision on the evolution of the clinical approach to overactive bladder in the context of GUOFU 2025, held in Málaga. In his intervention, he emphasizes that one of the most relevant advances in this field is the understanding that not all patients can be approached in the same way, since behind urinary symptoms there is often a global involvement that goes beyond the bladder as an isolated organ.
From this perspective, he highlights the importance of identifying the phenotype of each patient and understanding the functional and systemic background of these pathologies. In this framework, he points out that the emergence of technologies based on microcurrents, and particularly NESA, represents a promising therapeutic avenue within a more holistic and integral approach. As he explains, this tool generates high expectations among professionals due to its potential to offer a different response in patients whose symptomatology cannot be explained or treated solely from a local view.
In addition, he comments that his team already has the necessary resources to begin applying this technology and that they even have patients on a waiting list, reflecting the clinical interest it is arousing. Although he does not yet provide his own results, he conveys a clearly positive perspective and anticipates that it will be in future congresses where more concrete data on its application and evolution in care practice can be shared.
