María Jesús Gimeno is a nutritionist specialising in digestive conditions and sleep disorders, working at Centro REM, an integrative sleep centre in Córdoba. In this testimonial she explains how she incorporated non-invasive neuromodulation in search of a global approach to the patient, as a complementary tool alongside the work she already carries out with professionals from different specialties.
She describes that, when a patient comes in with sleep problems, the team first carries out a differential diagnosis — ruling out, for example, a respiratory condition — and, when the origin is functional, incorporates neuromodulation. This, she explains, allows them to personalise treatment considerably, working both on anxiety, insomnia and stress and on the digestive side, addressing inflammation, intestinal permeability and the microbiota, in what she describes as the connection with the “second brain”.
She shares the case of a recently retired patient who came in because he couldn’t sleep: once a respiratory sleep apnoea had been resolved, he still wasn’t resting well, and it was by combining nutrition and neuromodulation that the team managed to close that cycle and improve his quality of life in a global way. Her testimonial reflects the value of a multidisciplinary approach to rest.
