Albert Moreno, physiotherapist, osteopath and director of PL Clinic in Barcelona, presents the case of Verónica, a young patient who, after suffering a brain tumor, developed significant involvement of the facial and trigeminal nerves. As a consequence, she presented difficulties speaking, alteration in gaze, need to use artificial tears, relevant functional problems and considerable aesthetic involvement, all this at a particularly delicate moment due to her age and the overall impact this situation had on her daily life.
As Albert explains, the case was complex and also represented a therapeutic challenge, since the patient, months after the intervention, had little additional support beyond some speech therapy sessions. In this context, they decided to incorporate NESA to assess to what extent it could contribute to her recovery. The evolution, as he relates, was very positive and with very striking changes both from a functional point of view and in general quality of life.
Among the improvements observed, a notable recovery of speech stands out, the disappearance of the need to use artificial tears, preserved swallowing and a decrease in pain in the parietal area. In addition, the patient experienced significant improvement on the aesthetic plane, which also had a clear impact on her emotional well-being. Currently, Verónica no longer needs to continue with the device, but maintains a very positive assessment of the experience and shares it enthusiastically with other people.
